Network Monitor

The Network monitor is a software packet sniffer that analyzes network packets and frames. SMS Server includes the full version of Network Monitor and requires a NIC to work in promiscuous mode.

Promiscuous mode is a NIC that reads all traffic on the network even if it is not destined for that computer.

Graph Pane (1)

This pane shows a snapshot of activity on the network. Indicating the following statistics.

• % Network Utilization
• Frames per Second
• Bytes per Second
• Broadcasts per Second
• Multicasts per Second

A Thin line in the bar graph indicates the maximum value obtained for that session.

Session Statistics (2)

This pane displays a summary of conversations between

• Two Hosts
• Hosts Initiating Broadcasts
• Hosts Initiating Multicasts

Station Statistics (3)

Station Statistics displays a summary the total number frames Initiated by a host

• Number of frames and bytes sent
• Number of frames and bytes received
• Number of Broadcasts
• Number of Multicasts

Total Statistics (4)

The Total Statistics Pane displays traffic on the network as a whole

• Frames Captured per second
• Utilization
• Network Card Statistics
